Wondering what sensory discs and pathways are used for?

 

Sensory discs are an excellent tool to aid a child's sensory development. Walking on different textures and surfaces stimulates the tactile and proprioceptive (deep sensory) receptors located in the feet. This allows the child to develop tactile perception, balance and coordination.  Walking on the path has a positive influence on planning of movement, gross motor skills and spatial memory. Playing on the pathway improves concentration, allows the child to calm down and focus on the task at hand, which contributes to better results in school by building new connections in the brain responsible for the interpretation of tactile and visual stimuli, arising during the sensory stimulation provided by the sensory discs.

Texture description: 

 

The green glass pebbles evoke morning raindrops on moss. The streamlined and smooth shape gives a gentle and pleasant sensory experience. By touching them, we stimulate the superficial senses, and by walking on them we provide our feet with additional proprioceptive stimulation. Glistening in the light, the stones will also provide an interesting visual experience.

 

Various shades of brown and grey stones, brought straight from a forest stream, invite you to play. Slightly sharp in their form they provide a stronger sensation, engaging both the sense of touch and proprioception.

 

The white, black and brown bark will let you feel the heart of the forest under your feet, and its delicate smell will gently stimulate the sense of smell. The slightly rough texture will pleasantly tickle your hands and feet, providing natural sensory experiences (tactile and proprioceptive).

 

Souvenirs brought back from a forest walk evoke memories of playing in the woods. Soft in texture, with a rounded shape, they lightly massage the hands and feet, "exposing" them to pleasant sensory experiences, both tactile and proprioceptive.
