Wondering what sensory discs and pathways are used for?

 

Sensory discs are an excellent tool to aid a child's sensory development. Walking on different textures and surfaces stimulates the tactile and proprioceptive (deep sensory) receptors located in the feet. This allows the child to develop tactile perception, balance and coordination.  Walking on the path has a positive influence on planning of movement, gross motor skills and spatial memory. Playing on the pathway improves concentration, allows the child to calm down and focus on the task at hand, which contributes to better results in school by building new connections in the brain responsible for the interpretation of tactile and visual stimuli, arising during the sensory stimulation provided by the sensory discs.

Texture description: 

 

Various shades of brown and grey stones, brought straight from the meadow, invite you to play. Slightly sharp in their form, they provide a stronger sensation, engaging both the sense of touch and proprioception.

 

The flowers and plants collected in the meadow, embedded in resin and arranged on the disc, transport us to these scents and textures. Slightly protruding from the smooth surface, the flowers provide a sharper sensation in their form, engaging both the sense of touch and proprioception. 

 

The smooth and shiny surface of the mirror is deceptively reminiscent of the surface of water. The flat and smooth texture soothes hands and feet after stimulation with the stronger fillings on the sensory discs.  The reflection in the mirror provides an interesting visual experience. 

 

A stick brought from a walk evokes memories of playing in the meadow. Soft in texture, they lightly massage the hands and feet "exposing" them to pleasant sensory experiences, both tactile and proprioceptive.
