Late autumn weather does not encourage long walks. Recently, the only thing I dream about is sewing up with a book and a cup of tea under a warm blanket, preferably for the whole day

However, my children do not share my preferences, they definitely prefer jumping and running and they are not bothered by snow and frosty wind blowing in their eyes. No wonder, because the need for exercise is one of the most important needs of every child, especially in preschool age.

In order to develop properly, each child should be able to experience movement every day, preferably free and uninhibited and preferably outdoors. In addition to the obvious health benefits of being outdoors, such as strengthening immunity or oxygenating the body, exercise primarily helps to discharge children's energy. According to WHO, the minimum dose of exercise for children and adolescents is 60 minutes. I usually recommend to my patients and their parents that, regardless of the weather, children should be able to spend at least 2 hours outdoors. The form of exercise should, of course, be adapted to the possibilities and preferences of children, as well as to weather conditions. Children love playgrounds, but it is difficult to slide down the slide or swing when it was raining a moment ago and all the equipment is wet. However, let us not immediately give up being outside. An excellent form of exercise is walking on curbs, walls or stones - most children like balance games very much, we can also play tag with children, jump over puddles or just walk. Any kind of movement will be good as long as it gives us pleasure.
